Rates rebates

Residential ratepayers on low incomes may be eligible for a rates rebate.

Residential ratepayers on low incomes may be eligible for a rates rebate of up to $750 for the current rating year. You can apply for a rebate for the current rating year only.

Each application is judged against criteria set by the Government. The criteria covers many points and you still may qualify for a rebate with a higher income figure if you have dependants, or if your rates are high.

Here's what you need to know

Prior to applying, we recommend you check your eligibility via the rates rebate calculator on the Department of Internal Affairs website.

The income figure required to apply for a rebate is based on salaries/wages from 1 April 2022 to 30 March 2023.

Please note the rates rebate process and eligibility criteria is managed by the Department of Internal Affairs.

Ratepayer remission

A low-income ratepayer remission of up to $700 may also be automatically granted as part of your rates rebate application subject to the following criteria being met:

  • The property is not owned by a company or a trust.
  • You are eligible for a rates rebate.
  • The amount of the remission will be dependent on the amount of rates rebate you are granted.

Full details of the low-income remission policy can be found on these pages of the 2021-2031 Long-Term Plan.
